Update from Greg Brainerd, Foundation Chair

What is the Million Dollar Dinner?

It is being offered by our District Rotary Foundation for ‘eligible’ Major Donors.

It’s a dinner, or gala, being held right here in our own backyard at the Francis Marion Hotel on Nov. 6th to recognize eligible Major Donors and their guests, and to be attended by our own RI President, Shekhar Mehta, joining us all the way from India.

Who are eligible Major Donors?  Any Rotarian since Nov. 2019 who has made a Gift or Bequest (via their will) of at least $10,000. to the Rotary Foundation.

Before you say, “Whoa, I’m not about to stroke a check for $10,000.”, please know there are multiple simple ways this can be done.  As a gift, it does not need to be made lump sum; it can be pledged over 3 years, and can also be a transfer of stock.

As a Bequest, it can be done via a codicil or simple amendment to add The Rotary Foundation to your will.

There is also another way this can be simply done, as I’m doing, so you can use me as a guinea pig.  For those with a Traditional IRA with a brokerage firm such as Vanguard, Fidelity, Charles Schwab, etc., this can be done via an extremely simple 1 paragraph instruction to add Rotary Foundation to your Named Beneficiaries.  This can be done in less than 15 minutes.  Super, super, simple.

Upon their inheritance, and hopefully not for many years to come, I’m sure that our beneficiaries will be touched knowing how important Rotary has been to us, and us to Rotary, and that our legacy of Service Above Self lives on through The Rotary Foundation of helping others both locally and around the world.

If Major Donor status is something you’re interested in, now is a particularly good time to participate and for you and a guest to be honored at this extremely special Million Dollar Dinner in November.

Michael Jordon, with his legal background, and I would be very happy to help answer any questions and simplify the process of becoming a Major Donor.  Please give this some thought, join us for the very special Million Dollar Dinner, and consider how Rotary Foundation can be part of your enduring legacy.

Thank you.

Greg Brainerd, Foundation Chair

Hello fellow Rotarians,

At today’s meeting I was hoping to talk about this opportunity but we ran our of time, so here goes…..

As an International Organization, Rotary has tremendous impact across the globe.

On November 6th, our International President, Shekhar Mehta, will be in Charleston for a Million Dollar Meal. Your Board would like to alert each of you of the opportunity to enjoy a special evening in his honor at the Francis Marion Hotel and raise funds to make a significant impact in our Rotary Foundation.

Below is a letter explaining the event along with a short powerpoint slide presentation. If you would like to join a few other members from our Club and Rotarians from District 7770 at this dinner on 11/6/21, please reach out to Greg Brainerd, our Foundation Chair at or to me directly. The cost to attend is $10,000 per couple, and there are several ways to donate, including a codicil to your will.

Take a look at the attached and let us know if you would like to learn more.  No pressure!!

Yours in service,

Mary Jo

Subject: Rotary District 7770 Million Dollar Dinner

Good Morning Bernie,

As you may know our district has undertaken an important effort to make our world better by raising more than $1 Million in new major gifts to our Rotary Foundation.  Every person who makes a qualifying gift (a single, new gift of $10,000 or more) be it an outright gift, a bequest or a Life Income Agreement, will be invited to our District’s Million Dollar Dinner with Rotary International President, Shekhar Mehta, at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, Saturday, November 6th. Qualifying donors and a guest will be invited to attend the dinner at no cost; however, should you choose to stay at the Hotel, you will be responsible for your room.

At this point we have raised almost $1.8 million and are hoping to reach our goal of $2 million before the dinner.  These funds will make our world better by providing additional resources for all of Rotary’s important work including Polio eradication, each of our Areas of Focus, and the work that we do here in our own district as well.  Gifts to any one of Rotary’s philanthropic areas count towards this effort.

If you would like to learn more about ways you can be part of our success, please use the following link to schedule a phone call with our Rotary Foundation Senior Major Gifts Officer Carl Davis. It is easy and Carl will call you. ).

Carl can discuss the different charitable giving options with our Rotary Foundation and help you find a gift funding strategy that works well for you. However, if you just want a bit more information, email or call our Million Dollar Campaign Chair, Bernie Riedel at ( Bernie@RiedelComputers.Com ) or 843-816-4450.

Thank you for your past and continuing support of our Rotary Foundation. We hope you will decide to join us for this very special celebration, our District’s First Million Dollar Dinner!
