November 11, 2020 - Rotary Recap. In addition to celebrating our Veterans was our day to celebrate the success of the fundraiser by handing out checks! The 5 COVID negatively impacted charities were present at the meeting either virtually or in person. Stephanie Kelley with ECCO informed the Club that ECCO provides food, rent & utility assistance to those in need and since COVID the need has doubled, and that 21% of those they serve are in the Daniel Island and Cainhoy Community. George Roberts with Meals on Wheels, confirmed that Meals on Wheels is assisting those persons homebound with meals, such as if you are quarantining because of the COVID virus. Mickie Bass with Feed the Need informed Members that prior to the Pandemic their organization was feeding the hungry by preparing the meals, but currently, their focus is to provide funds to feed the food insecure and provide a winter jacket and gloves for the holidays. Lamar Mowatt with the Humanities Foundation updated Members that their focus is to provide low-income housing and assistance to those living in their facilities. Casey Stradcutter with HALOS (Helping and Lending Outreach Support) explained that their focus is on assisting Kinship Caregivers. There are currently 69,000 children removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect situations here in South Carolina, and only 4,700 are in Foster Care.
