December 9, 2020 - Rotary Recap. Ron Daise, was the guest speaker at our weekly breakfast meeting held virtually. Ron spoke about the Gullah language and culture. He is a singer, songwriter, writer of children’s books, author, TV star, and currently is working at Brookgreen Gardens educating others on the Gullah culture. One of his most recent projects was to translate the Bible. Ron had a unique opportunity to travel with a group to Sierra Leone where he felt on unbelievable connection. He is from St. Helena Island and received South Carolina’s most distinguished awards: the Order of the Palmetto and Folk Heritage Award. Ron did a fabulous job engaging members in a game that taught interesting facts about the Gullah Geechee culture and language.
