3/31/2021 - LaVanda Brown, YWCA

March 31, 2021 - Rotary Recap. LaVanda Brown, Executive Director of Greater Charleston’s YWCA, was our Club’s weekly breakfast speaker held virtually. LaVanda has dedicated her life to serving others and improving the lives of the underserved and women. She is a former Rotarian and embraces the 4-way test. She started working for the YWCA at the age of 13 as a camp counselor and is honored to be leading the organization. The YWCA started in London in 1855 and their founding principals are still relevant today. There are only 2 YWCA’s left in SC and they were one of the last to be integrated. They created a program to educate others on diversity titled the Racial Equity Institute and have had stellar success!!! The club had a successful blood drive yesterday and will be preparing for their Easter food drive today and tomorrow
