Rotary Recap - 2/12 - Bob Moran - Volvo Car Open

Bob Moran, General Manager with Volvo Car Open, was the guest speaker at this week's breakfast meeting.  Bob awed those in attendance with the growth and history of this tennis event.  This year's tournament is celebrating its 20th year on Daniel Island and is expected to draw 90,000 spectators from 44 states and 100 athletes, of which 12 of the top 20 players have committed to play.  Ticket sales are already 20% above what they were a year ago, and this year will not disappoint the fans with a focus on improvements in the food and beverage options along with a focus on technology, including an app and electronic line calling. Besides the tennis tournament, the center has 20 courts and 4 extremely busy Pickle Ball Courts, along with planning 12-15 music concerts annually.  Our very own Kevin Condo shared "his story" from growing up in Rhode Island, a graduate of Wake Forest, and retired from Eaton Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio.  Kevin is married with 2 children and moved to Daniel Island in 2018.  We would also like to give a warm welcome to Sheldon Kramer, who is the newest member of our club.  Please mark your calendar for the upcoming following events: (1) Investment Hobby Club this Saturday; (2) bring your food items to next week's meeting for ECCO (please see list of suggested items); (3) February 25th along with 4 other local Rotary clubs back meals at the Low Country Food Bank; (4) February 26th is a Field Trip to the Vietnam Experience at Patriots Point; (5) February 27th is the Oyster Roast with DIBA and (5) March 27 - 29th is the all club conference in Columbia.
