Scarlett WIlson, Solicitor
09/25/2024
Today we heard from Scarlett Wilson, Solicitor for the Ninth Judicial Circuit in South Carolina, which includes Charleston and Berkeley counties. The primary duty of a solicitor in South Carolina is to prosecute criminal cases on behalf of the state which includes case management, victim advocacy, legal consultation, and administrative duties. By fulfilling these duties, solicitors play a crucial role in upholding the law and ensuring justice within South Carolina's criminal justice system.
Mrs. Wilson’s presentation today covered the challenges in getting people to testify, progress in significantly lowering overall violent crime rates except for murders, addressing retail organized theft, convicting those involved in the 2020 riots, and the challenges with scheduling, resources, and case loads for the Ninth Judicial Circuit, which has grown much more than some other circuits in South Carolina.
Scarlett is a native of Hemingway, South Carolina, and has a strong background in law and prosecution. Wilson completed her undergraduate studies at Clemson University, graduating in 1989. She then went on to earn her law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1992. Scarlett Wilson has dedicated nearly three decades of her career to prosecution. As a Solicitor, she is known for her tough yet compassionate approach to law enforcement.
