About the event
May 8 (Blackbaud) -- Captain Eric J. Jones, Commanding Officer, U.S. Coast Guard Base, Charleston. Captain Jones has referred to the Coast Guard as the “Secret Service on water”. Big changes are happening to the Coast Guard facility in Charleston. A new $160 million North Charleston campus on the south end of the Navy Base will become home for 5 national security cutters. It will be the center for all Coast Guard operations on the East Coast of the U.S., and the five cutters will represent about one-half of the Coast Guard’s fleet. The Coast Guard’s duties include stopping drug smugglers, human traffickers, pirates, polluters, fish poachers, and drunken boaters. It is an integral part of our nation’s security system. If you read nothing else, read the Post and Courier article cited below before your come. Prepare to learn and be impressed.
