April 14 – Damon L. Fordham, Professor of History, The Citadel -- The Legendary Singing Street Salesmen of Charleston. (Zoom). If you have seen Porgy and Bess you will be familiar with the Crab Man, the Strawberry Lady, and the Honey Man. They were street vendors on Market Street who would sing to you and, hopefully, entice you to buy their wares. Dr. Fordham will tell us (and sing to us) about these singing street salesmen. In more recent times you all may remember Tony the Peanut Man who used to sell peanuts down at the market as well as at Charleston River Dogs home games. He was a character and a true Charleston legend!
