About the event
The Daniel Island Community Speaker’s Series will continue with a Zoom webinar on Wednesday evening, November 4, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. We will return to the Daniel Island Club once it is safe to do so.Our speaker that evening will be Steve Palmer. Steve is a legend in the restaurant industry in Charleston. He is the Managing Partner of The Indigo Road Hospitality Group which now owns 24 restaurants throughout the Southeast. Restaurant names you will recognize are O-Ku, The Macintosh, Oak Steakhouse, Indaco, Mercantile and Mash, and The Granary. And soon there will another Indigo Road restaurant right here on Daniel Island. What is endearing about Steve is his willingness to talk about his past addiction to alcohol and cocaine and how he overcame it. Working in the industry he recognized that many of his co-workers and employees struggled with addiction and depression. He created Ben’s Friends, an addiction support group for restaurant workers. He did a TED talk here in Charleston in 2017 entitled “Sober Reality for the Food and Beverage Industry”. Steve maintains the philosophy that great service starts with well cared for employees, and he is committed to serving the very people who support him. Steve is a long-time supporter of Feed the Need. In Charleston 52 restaurants have committed one day of food service to four local nonprofits. The meals are prepared in the restaurants’ kitchen and delivered and served by the restaurants staff. Feed the Need is one of the recipients of funds from this year’s Rotary Club of Daniel Island fundraiser.
The program will begin promptly at 7:00 pm and will conclude around 8:00 pm.
