September 22 (DI Club, Fellowship) -- Daniel Island Community Speakers Series, Tommy Baker, President, Baker Motor Company. Everybody knows or knows of Tommy Baker. Probably one-half of you bought your car from the guy. Tommy grew up in Mt. Pleasant and went in the Marines shortly after graduation from high school, and then went to The Citadel after his stint in the Marines. Upon graduation from the Citadel he made the rounds of numerous car dealerships throughout the South. He eventually founded Baker Motor Company in 1988. He sells Mercedes, Porsche, Infiniti, Cadillac, Buick, at locations in Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, Summerville, and Wilmington, N.C. But Tommy also has a very philanthropic side with a passion for the MUSC Children’s Hospital, scholarships for students at CofC and The Citadel, YESCarolina, and even the tall ship Spirit of South Carolina.
