Daniel Island Community Speakers Series with Matt Sloan, President of the Daniel Island Development Company

April 21 – Daniel Island Community Speakers Series with Matt Sloan, President of the Daniel Island Development Company. We all live on this beautiful island which we now call home. Many of you are recent arrivees and may not be that familiar with the development of the island. Given that the build-out of the island is nearly complete, we thought it might be appropriate to hear from the man who had the vision and made it happen. As President of the Daniel Island Company, Matt has been involved with Daniel Island since 1997 when the company purchased the island from the Guggenheim family. He managed to get it incorporated into the City of Charleston and beat out the cities of N. Charleston and Mt. Pleasant also wanted to annex the island. Current Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg used to run the Tecklenburg market (Now Lidi’s Restaurant) back in the very early days. Matt also has some pictures he will share with us from those early days when DI was nothing more than quiet pastures and hunting grounds.
