Folks, we have a special guest speaker joining us for our Sat., Feb. 15th meeting (9AM at Daniel Pointe Retirement Community, 514 Robert Daniel Dr.-Daniel Island).
We'll be having Eric Thome of VentureSouth Charleston to discuss a topic that was of expressed interest following our January meeting. VentureSouth Charleston: VentureSouth Charleston is an active group of accredited investors in and around Charleston, South Carolina. Our members help evaluate potential portfolio companies for investment, putting to use their broad range of successful business experiences and professional talents. The Charleston group is one of 13 groups in the larger VentureSouth network, which started in 2008 in Greenville, SC. Recently recognized as a Top 10 Angel Group in North America by the Angel Capital Association, VentureSouth has hit record levels of investment the past four years in a row. Eric Thome: Eric is the Director of VentureSouth Charleston, an angel investing group focused on early-stage, high-growth ventures in the Southeast. Also, Eric serves as Director of Business Development for the local investment bank, Charles Towne Holdings. The founder of Death Valley Ventures, Eric purchased the folding kayak company, Folbot, started Gameday Blazers, and most recently invested in a local fitness franchise, Barre3, on King St. Eric received his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University and his MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia. He is the past president of the UVA Club of the Lowcountry and former board member of the Clemson Alumni Association. He is a partner in Social Venture Partners where he chairs the Investment Committee, as well as a member of the Charleston Shared Future Project, a mentor with SCORE and a founding member of Charleston Coalition for Kids. Eric and his wife, Eloise, live in Charleston, SC with their three daughters, Anna, Landon and Virginia.
