January 11 – (Zoom) Jacob Lindsey, VP for Development, Lowe Real Estate, and Jordi Yarbrough, SVP, Community Engagement, S.C. Ports Authority.
We know both Jacob and Jordi. Jacob spoke to us in 2019 when he was the Director of Planning, Preservation, and Sustainability for the City of Charleston. Jordi was the young lady who gave us such a wonderful tour of the Wando Welch Terminal back in May. This year they are doing a joint presentation about the renovation of the Union Pier Terminal downtown. The renovation is being led by Lowe Real Estate which in the past has been responsible for the construction of the Wild Dunes Resort, the Sweetgrass Inn at Wild Dunes, The Cooper which is the soon-to-be-completed hotel on the site of the old Ports Authority building adjacent to the pineapple fountain, and the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. Now, it is responsible for the development of the Union Pier terminal downtown which they plan to make into a new peninsula neighborhood which will include a new cruise ship terminal, a marina, restaurants, retail shops, parks, and residential units. The pedestrian waterside walkway will be extended from Harris Teeter on East Bay Street, along the Cooper River all the way through Waterfront Park to the Battery, and then up the Ashley River to the Coast Guard Station.
