February 11 -- Jami Rankin, District 7770 Youth Exchange District Chair. The Youth Exchange Program facilitates cultural immersion for students age 15-19. It arranges year-long exchanges where local teens go abroad and international students come to South Carolina. It arranges host families for the families, school placement, language learning, and provides guidance. It helps the students build confidence, maturity, leadership skills, and a broader worldview. At the end the students in our district’s program tour the U.S. For those of you with kids in that age bracket it would be an eye-opening experience for your son or daughter. And for the rest of us, you might want to consider becoming a sponsor and offer an inbound student the opportunity to stay at your house for a few months. These are genuinely nice kids and it is a thoroughly rewarding experience for both the students and their hosts.
