April 22 -- Mike Seekings -- City of Charleston Councilman for District 8. Mike’s district encompasses all of the downtown peninsula from the Battery to Calhoun West of King Street as well as most of the south side of Daniel Island. The part of his district that lies on the peninsula encompasses the soon-to-be developed Union Pier. It also means that his district suffers the most from Charleston’s flooding problem which explains his intense interest in that particular problem.
Mike was first elected to City Council in November 2009. He is widely recognized as the hardest working most informed member on the council. His primary responsibility on City Council is as Chair of the City’s Traffic and Transportation Committee. And as one of his related duties he is the Board Chair for CARTA. Mike was a candidate for mayor in 2018.
