About the event
January 8 (Blackbaud) -- Rev. Bill Stanfield, CEO, Founder of Metanoia. Bill and his wife Evelyn Oliveira started Metanoia, a community development corporation, in 2003. The idea is to empower residents by investing in their strengths (their assets), creating a leadership pipeline, providing after school programs, fostering entrepreneurship, and reclaiming properties to convert them into affordable housing. In 2010 they adopted two children from Ethiopia. They have lived in the Chicora-Cherokee community in North Charleston on Success Street. Now the historic Chicora Elementary School in that neighborhood is being repurposed by Metanoia and a catholic organization called Christo Rey into an innovative Roman Catholic high school that provides free, college prep education for low-income students. Its students spend one day in the workplace as interns for every four days in the classroom. Christo Rey’s model was started in Chicago 25 years ago. You do not want to miss Bill’s presentation.
