About the event
September 7 – (Daniel Island Club) Sam Norton , Heron Farms, Farming Not on Land but in the Sea. Our ancestors gathered seeds from all sorts of healthy, tasty plants, they sowed them in fertile soils, provided them with freshwater. They created agriculture. But now our agricultural systems have become outdated and threatened by a growing global population and changing climate conditions. Too little fresh water. Too much salt water. Too much CO2. But what if you could develop a plant that could grow in sea water, tasted good, and removed CO2 from the atmosphere? Sam is on a mission to do just that. He has created sea beans grown in salt water. You can get them today at Chubby Fish, FIG, Prohibition, and Minero. Seawater agriculture is truly an agricultural revolution. Sam was a presenter at this year’s TEDx conference in Charleston.
