The Daniel Island Community Speaker’s Series will continue on Wednesday evening, January 24, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the ballroom at the Daniel Island Club. Our speaker will be U.S. Air Force Colonel (retired) Alex Pelbath who was the Commanding Officer for the mission charged with evacuating all U.S. military and civilian personnel from Kabul, Afghanistan in August 2021. He piloted the final U.S. aircraft off the ground.
You have all seen the pictures of Afghans clinging to the struts of the C-17s that were attempting to take off from Kabul. Air Force officers are taught how to respond in various situations. But the rule book cannot cover every possible situation. At that point, it puts its trust in its officers to make the right decision. There is no word to describe the situation that…
