Speaker Series – Nanci Shipman and Dr. Jay Demarco

On Wednesday evening January 29, there will be two speakers, Nanci Shipman and Dr. Jay Demarco. Nanci will tell a tragic story about the dangers of opioid addiction. Dr. Demarco will offer hope that non-addictive alternatives for pain control are now available which can eliminate the dangers of addiction associated with oxycodone, fentanyl, and a variety of other opioids.

Nanci’s son, Creighton, played lacrosse for Wando High School. He suffered an ankle injury and experienced excruciating pain. Managing  pain was critical for  him to heal and he was prescribed opioids to aid in his recovery. Tragically, he become addicted to opioids. Soon he turned to heroin and not long afterwards died from a drug overdose. Just months after Creighton’s death her second son, Hollis, was playing football. A bone-crushing tackle broke Hollis’ leg.
